The fourth annual Homelessness Action Week is coming up October 11 - 17. This year add your voice to the call for a national, affordable housing strategy at www.stophomelessness.ca.

Four Metro Vancouver mayors including Surrey mayor and council are supporting this intiative.

Also, check out the calendar pages on the website to see what is happening in your community. Volunteers are needed for Project Homeless Connect events.

Vancity staff really stepped up to the plate in 2008 and volunteered at Connect events in Surrey and Vancouver. In case you missed it, here is a link to the video Kate made in Surrey last year:

Anyone want to start a social enterprise in the dtes?

I live and love in gastown/dtes - in a little loft/condo.   I have a problem that a social enterprise could solve.

I want to compost but have no garden, and not much room in my home.  So, I'm going to try Bokashi (small buckets, no smell).  But here's the thing:  I have nowhere to put the compost once it's ready.

This is what a small handful of people deciding to do something can accomplish.

Please join us, we'd love to see you there ;)

do something to help those in the Downtown Eastside

It got tired of doing nothing, of thinking that the problem was too big, that I couldn't do anyhting to make a difference, and I just started, took a stepforward, connected with other like minded people and it flowed from there. It's funny when you realize how much helping others helps yourself, in ways you would never imagine ;)

Olympics: a Plus or Minus for Vancouver?

Written by nancy aka money...

I voted for the olympics. I wanted them to come. I liked the idea of 'inviting the world to Vancouver' and I also figured it was a good motivator to get different levels of government to commit funding to infrastructure.

Now, I'm not so sure.
