Building the conservation economy

Written by ecotrustcanada

British Columbia’s competitive advantage rests on social and ecological diversity unparalleled in the world. Our rich rainforests, teeming rivers and bountiful seas, combined with our well-educated workforce and unique blend of Indigenous and global cultures, differentiates us in the world.

The conservation economy is driven by the triple-bottom-line, where economic opportunity improves rather than degrades social and environmental conditions. Some people call it sustainability – we call it the conservation economy. This economic approach provides meaningful work and good livelihoods, supports vibrant communities and the recognition of Aboriginal rights and title, and conserves and restores the environment.

Most people are not aware that 97 percent of our "money" in Canada is created in the form of credit or debt with interest cost attached for no other reason than bank profits. I propose mass education on the incredible potential for real growth in Canada if we, through our government, were to begin using the Bank of Canada to create all currency in this country, for the benefit of all of our citizens rather than for the benefit of private bankers.

Update: based on the first comment to this post, looks like the "no more paper statements" option will soon become a reality!

Since when are paper statements mandatory? Last year, I made multiple phone requests to Citizens Bank (my favourite bank) to stop sending me paper statements... every time they assured me it was going to be done. But I kept receiving paper statements.
